GM recalls pickup trucks to fix brake issue
General Motors has recalled its light-duty pickup trucks, Silverado and Sierra for the second time over brake-failure issue. Previously, a recall was issued last December for the brake controls in 2019 Chevy Silverados, GMC Sierras, and some Cadillac CT6s.
The recall is majorly being made as the previous recall failed to fix the vehicles initially. Owners reported that their electronic brake systems are failing and have been malfunctioning, after using the OnStar app to start their cars remotely.
The automaker issued the previous brake recall on December 12, 2019. The recall was focused on fixing a software problem that could cause the anti-lock and stability control systems to fail. The fix involved reprogramming of the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).
The first recall, (NHTSA campaign number 19V8890000) had covered nearly 464,000 Cadillac CT6 sedans and Chevrolet Silverado alongside GMC Sierra pickup trucks from 2019.
However, the second recall looks forward to covering roughly over 350,000 Silverado variants of the model year 2019 and 2020, including the similar 1500 units of Sierra pickups. The automaker states that a cable connecting the battery and alternator may have too much glue on it, leading to interrupt the electrical connection and possibly causing the trucks to stall or catch fire.
The second recall, as mentioned earlier, has already been active since January 27. The dealers will inspect the cables and clean the connectors if needed. Lastly, the published documents in both cases don't mention any crashes, fires or injuries that happened to the owners or occupants of the vehicles.
