Toyota Tundra Interior & Features
Inside the Toyota Tundra, one will be pleased by the all-black cabin, which looks sporty with the silver-finished centre console, thus adding great contrast to the cabin.
The four-spoke steering wheel with thick silver lower spokes looks fancy, however, the buttons on the steering wheel for audio and Bluetooth look tad too dated. The comprehensive instrument console with a coloured MID screen looks updated, thus going one step ahead of the old school themed design.
The broad and rectangular themed design for centre console looks premium with silver surrounds and a touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control. However, the overuse of buttons makes it look a bit cluttered.
However, while the Toyota Tundra looks old school and bot so flashy in and out, the list of comfort and convenience features does make it feel that it is a vehicle that belongs to the current generation. With features like dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated, ventilated and powered front seats, 60:40 split rear seats, power vertical sliding rearview window, push-button start with keyless entry and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, the Toyota Tundra is a luxury vehicle in every sense.
Tundra Exterior
The Toyota Tundra has got the quintessential muscular presence which makes it look bold and strong, as far as its dimensions and blocky appeal are concerned. However, going by the overall design, it looks a bit old and frankly, a generation old.
What catches the attention the most in the Toyota Tundra is the ultra-large grille at the front. The trapezoidal grille with tapered edges downwards looks really huge, and the full chrome finish makes it look too blingy. The longitudinally stretched air scoop above the grille too has got chrome surrounds, making it look like an integral part of the grille itself. Even the fog lamp surrounds are finished in thick use of chrome. The slightly swept-back block-shaped headlamps do get LED inserts, making it look flashy, however, the huge size of the grille make the headlamps look dwarfed.
The side and rear profiles of the Toyota Tundra look a bit bland with no character lines or pronounced cuts and creases, like a typical old school truck. However, the chrome-finished rearview mirrors and door handles do add to the premium appeal, which is generated by the heavy dose of chrome at the front.
Toyota Tundra Ride & Handling
With strong and sturdy mechanicals under its skin, the Toyota Tundra has been bestowed with an independent double-wishbone with a stabiliser bar at the front and a live axle with the trapezoidal multi-leaf rear suspension at the rear. With a rock-solid and sturdy feel as well as a flawless four-wheel-drive system, the Toyota Tundra feels indestructible over any condition.
Tundra Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the mammoth Toyota Tundra is an equally large and powerful 5.7-litre V8 petrol engine. The engine is coupled to a standard 6-speed automatic gearbox, the engine puts up 385 PS of maximum power output and 544 Nm of torque. While the engine impresses one with its sheer power output, the engine is quite a gas guzzler when it comes to fuel efficiency.
Toyota Tundra Braking & Safety
For a utility vehicle, the Toyota Tundra is generously equipped with safety features such as eight airbags, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, dynamic radar cruise control, vehicle stability control, traction control, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, tire pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer sway control.
Tundra Verdict
While the Toyota Tundra might not look as modern and flashy as other new-generation pickup trucks, it still has the stance, road presence, and performance of a traditional old school pickup, which makes it feel built to last.
