Being the highest-selling segment in the market today, pickup trucks are the most popular choice for the average American car buyers. As the competition rages on carmakers are constantly upgrading their pickup contenders and Chevrolet’s latest refresh of its Silverado pickup is all ready to take on the ever so popular Ford F-150. The New Chevrolet Silverado is larger and lighter than its predecessor and comes equipped with Chevrolet’s ‘Dynamic Fuel Management’ technology which uses 17 different firing modes that allows it to shut up to 6 cylinders depending on the driving condition and its power requirement. Traditionally, Chevrolet has stuck with the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” philosophy, sometimes quite too seriously but with the new Silverado pickup truck, the company has opened its door to an entirely new design language which includes redesigned features like headlight clusters and wheel wells.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is available with a total of five engine options which includes two V8s one V6, one 6-cylinder inline diesel, and a turbocharged 4 cylinder unit. The four-cylinder turbocharged unit produces 310 BHP of power, mustered by the 2.7-liter unit and takes 7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. The V8 motor is available in two configurations which includes a 5.3-liter and a 6.2-liter engine option. The 6.2 powerplant produces 420 BHP of power whereas the 5.3 liter only managers to produce 355 BHP. Chevrolet offers a wide range of transmission option to go along with its engine range which includes a 6 speed automatic, 8 speed automatic, and a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The prices for the 2019 Silverado with the regular cab and long bed start at $29,895 followed by the double cab with standard bed priced at $33795. There is also the option of a crew cab with a short bed and standard bed models with prices starting from $36,195 and $36,495, respectively.

Stepping inside the 2019 Silverado, occupants will find a hi-tech, feature-laden interior which comes with Chevrolet’s touchscreen Infotainment 3 system as standard with an optional Infotainment 3 Plus system with 8-inch diagonal HD color touchscreen on offer. Other standard features include a 40:20:40 split-bench front seat with under-seat storage. Silverado now also comes with other equipment choices that are available as optional extras and include front bucket seats, SiriusXM radio trial, Bose premium sound system, 10-way power-adjustable driver seat with temperature control function, heated steering wheel, etc. Silverado is also available in a stripped-down variant which comes with bare essentials that include manually adjustable front seats, windows, and manual locks. The standard 7-inch infotainment touchscreen system also comes with Apple CarPlay compatibility as standard. Customers can also pay extra to opt for a larger 8-inch infotainment unit with in-dash navigation, heads up display and wireless smartphone charging.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 secured a four-star overall safety rating in the crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As most modern cars in the market easily manage to secure a five-star crash test safety rating, Silverado’s performance in the tests seems underwhelming. Chevrolet also does not offer any driver assistance features as standard but there is a wide range of optional safety and drivers assistance add-ons which are offered as paid extras and include lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beam headlamps, rear cross-traffic alert, HD real vision camera, etc.
