GM hits with class-action lawsuit over the faulty Cadillac CUE touch screens

General Motors has been hit by a class-action lawsuit stating the allegation that the CUE infotainment/touch screen display of Cadillac is defective. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and mentions that Cadillac CUE screens crack, delaminate, bubble and become unresponsive.

In response to the lawsuit, the automaker cited that the default was already known and also notified the people through the published bulletin.

The first bulletin was published in December 2014 which informed all the authorized dealers and asked them to report the cases and to replace the whole CUE system. Another service bulletin came out in August 2017.

As per the bulletin, if customers found such fault in the screen, they may report this to the company. And it is recommended that to replace its Integrated Center Stack on which the touch screen working is based. It also mentioned the potential damage to the screen by cleaning agents or excessive force.

The technical service bulletin no. PIC6055C published by the automaker in August 2017 states several vehicles which probably affected by the issue. They are:

The lawsuit explains the exact problem as the touch screen begins to fail when the system’s glass and attached film become separated which creates a gap between the sensing electrodes, which “critically changes” the systems’ electrical relationships and resulted in making the screen unresponsive.

The default results in the non-functionality of several vehicle features connected with that and also a delaminated screen does not appear nice. The people involved in the lawsuit are still unknown at this time. Moreover, the extra cost for customers to get the screens repaired mentioned as $1,200.
