Chevrolet’s first Corvette Stingray sells for $3 million at Barrett-Jackson auction

Chevrolet recently auctioned off its first 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray at the Barrett Jackson. The proceedings from the auction will be used by a non-profit organization, Detroit Children's Fund.

The auction resulted in gaining a total sum of $3 million for the first 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray off the production. The rights of the car were handed to Rick Hendrick, owner of the racing team NASCAR.

The car will be featuring the first mid-engine Corvette in the 3LT trim. Inside, the interiors of the car will sport black seats with red trim, red seatbelts, GT2 seats along with a performance data recorder and Z51 performance package.

While the car at the auction was just a showcase model, painted in red, the actual model will feature a black exterior along with a removable roof panel and rear spoiler. The real car, VIN 001, hasn't been built yet.

Additionally, Mr. Hendrick will also get an option to pick up the vehicle from Chevrolet's factory at the Bowling Green, Kentucky, and get a tour of the Corvette museum. Also, he will be receiving an artwork of the car and a certificate of authenticity.

On being asked about his recent accomplishment, Hendrick exclaimed, "I am the number one Corvette junkie in the world," he also commented. "Thanks to Chevrolet and Barrett-Jackson, because they always pick charities that are so good and help so many people."  

The proceedings from the charity will be headed to Detroit Children's Fund that makes targeted investments to grow the number of quality schools in Detroit.

Lastly, the production model of the C8 Corvette might start rolling off the assembly line soon, and the first deliveries are expected to happen in March. The automaker claims to have received over 37,000 reservations for the car before the 2020 model year of the vehicle being officially out yet.
