Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R is revered for its performance-boosting DNA globally. Setting the roads ablaze since its debut a decade ago, the GT-R has undergone several overhauls, only to get better with each update. Nissan’s well-received sports car, popularly called ‘Godzilla’ runs on a robust turbocharged V6 engine which puts out power in two states of tune. The 2019 Nissan GT-R is currently available in four variants in the US market-Pure, Premium, Track Edition and Nismo with prices falling in the range of $99,990 (for the Pure) to $175,540 (for the Nismo variant). The other two variants, Premium, and Track Edition are priced at $110,540 and $128,540 respectively (all prices MSRP). Changes made to the 2019 Nissan GT-R are visible on the outside as well as inside, though nothing prominent. Keeping abreast with the competition, it gets new equipment and some mechanical tweaks. 

In visual terms, the sports car retains its cutting-edge looks and aerodynamic elements which aide performance. Some new additions and styling updates have been made to elevate its aesthetic appeal. At the front, there are LED-equipped headlamps accompanied by integrated LED daytime running lights. It additionally gets a new grille in front which completes the look. The sharp contours, sloping roofline meeting with steeply raked in windshield reiterates the sporty character of GT-R. The rear is marked by the double-barrel circular tail-lamps, dual tail-pipes, and a prominent lip spoiler.      

Over the years, the cabin has also changed, keeping with the comfort of the occupants. The 2019 Nissan GT-R is no different, as it gets slight changes, while most of the elements remain untouched. In terms of space, the sports car is quite comfortable and allows easy ingress and egress. Some adjustments need to be made to set the driver’s seat comfortably. The buttons for operating some of the functions are well within reach, though the instrument panel controls are positioned on the IP surround and the active exhaust as well as driving aid buttons are placed low, at the height of your knees. While the front seats are snug, the confined space at the back could pinch the rear passengers. On the feature front, it packs in an 11-speaker Bose audio system, Active Sound Enhancement systems, Titanium exhaust system and Active Noise Cancellation, Nissan Connect, Navigation, Apple CarPlay among several others. 

Power on the 2019 Nissan GT-R is drawn by a 3.8L DOHC 24-valve V6 engine tuned to pump out a massive power of 565 hp against 467 lb-ft of torque. This unit is paired with a dual-clutch sequential 6-speed gearbox, electronically controlled ATTESA E-TS AWD system. A slight calibrated version of the V6 unit is equipped in the GT-R NISMO that belts out 600 hp along with 481 lb-ft of torque. It also gets additional exterior and interior enhancements and a tuned suspension. Interestingly, out of the four variants, the GT-R Track Edition is designed to offer a higher level of performance. 

As for safety, it is layered with six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle dynamic control, traction control system, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, Nissan/Brembo braking system and multi-LED headlights, seat-belt pre-tensioners, etc.
