Chevrolet Corvette C8 engine specs leaked

Amid the rumors of the upcoming C8 Chevrolet Corvette, some new information about the upcoming model has leaked. The information has come from the Corvette Forum and posted by a user who claims to have the lowdown on future Corvette engines. The posted images reveal a range of stats through an unformatted Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that can be accessed throughout the world. Let’s dig into the leaked stats and try to find out their authenticity. The sheet listed several horsepower ratings for a variety of engine displacements and designations, which unveils the fact that the 490 horsepower LT2 V8 is listed with 469 hp.

The uploaded images showcase a range of engines equipped in current Chevy Corvette C7 and also a mid-engine rear-drive (MR) configuration. It further specifies a 5.5-litre 32-valve V8 showing three configurations – naturally aspirated, turbocharged, and hybrid – and a 6.2-liter V8 hybrid. From this, we can say that C8 can get more than one hybrid powertrain.

The first among the 5.5-litre DOHC engines listed, the naturally aspirated version has LT6 designation, making 600 hp and 840 Nm of torque, with power peaking at just 5,000 rpm, whereas the current LT2 pushrod V8 produces its peak power at 6,450 rpm, so 5000 rpm is found suspiciously low. The turbocharged version designated as LT7 is supposed to make 850 hp with the same 5,000 rpm. And the craziest in the list is the 5.5-litre hybrid, which keeps the same hp and rpm figures, but with a high torque of 1250 Nm. So, it is found that the listed information has the same stats for the future 6.2-litre hybrid V8 as the standard 6.2-litre.

Here, it can be possible that the leaked excel is an earlier clip of GM benchmark data as the LT2’s figures do not match with the specs already known. Moreover, the hybrid engine details could be a simple comparison of gasoline engine production to its combined output. But another doubt arises in the case of LT7, why its torque is different? So, the information listed in the sheet seems hazy and it is hard to make a particular assertion.
