Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser going all-electric with crate electric V8 motor

Engines such as V8s have been adding fun and adventure to old cars and trucks for more than a decade now. There’s an expanding campaign that comprises of transforming classic vehicles into EVs with the aid of electric powertrains. This transformation can be challenging to go through; however, Electric GT is operating on a more uncomplicated solution by employing a crate electric V8 motor. To reveal the solution, the brand has been transforming a vintage 1970 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser since the beginning of the previous year, which is about to finish and this conversation also appears to be a testbed for an innovative all-in-one modular “crate” system.

There are other companies present as well who have swapped various high-profile electric powertrain to offer benefits like quieter operation, immediate full torque output, and zero emissions. However, it was out of reach for the people due to the high cost and complexity of the transformation. On the other hand, Electric GT’s solution attempts to eradicate the complexity, making it more accessible than an internal combustion engine conversion.

Electric GT has manufactured a number of such conversions. For example, the company has recently established Volkswagen’s Type 20 Microbus concept, which assisted as a retro cabinet for upcoming user-interface tech. Hutchinson stated that Electric GT does not want to go huge on the process of transformation but instead, it will produce electric powertrains to manufacturers.

The crate electric motor is formed like a V8, and it gets mated to the transmission of the Toyota Land Cruiser. The company states that there are dual crate motor types. One features a single motor that generates a maximum power of 140-horsepower and a peak torque of 325 Nm, whereas, the other gets two engines that put out 240-horsepower and 460 Nm of torque. It is expected to reveal the launch date by the end of this year.
