Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser to get a hybrid powertrain

The upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser will get a V6 petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. The new offering is set for a debut in August, as per a report from BestCarWeb.jp. The web portal claims to have a ton of alleged details on Toyota's future offering.

Ever since its introduction in the market in 2008, the Land Cruiser has received plenty of updates over time. Presently, Toyota is gearing up to put an end to its diesel engine and step forward to electrification in its chart-topping SUV.

Next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser front

As per reports, Toyota's flagship SUV will come with a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. The vehicle will be powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine and a pair of electric motors, producing a maximum power of 295 horsepower (220 kilowatts) and peak torque of up to 356 Nm.

The new changes in the powertrain are set to shed the overall weight of the car. Also, the Dubbed Toyota New Global Architecture-F (TNGA-F) platform which is a new addition to the lineup, reportedly keeps the current model's body-on-frame setup. Currently, the Cruiser runs over the current generation of 5.7-litre V-8 which generates a maximum power of 381 hp.

The new Land Cruiser series is also rumoured to be shorter and lower than the current model. The updated dimensions are, 4950 mm in length ( shorter by 40 mm), 1980 mm wide and 1870 mm in height ( height being reduced by 100 mm, the car retains its width).

When asked about the next-gen Land Crusier, an official from Toyota commented, "I can tell you whatever we bring out in future will be exciting and capable," he also said. "Whatever we bring out will be capable, and I think our loyal owner base will be very pleased."

Users can expect a plethora of advanced safety features in the forthcoming offering along with improved looks and performance. Also, the transmission of the car might face improvement for an increased off-roading experience along with seating arrangements for either five or eight occupants.

Lastly, the model's future in the U.S. is uncertain. BestCarWeb.jp says that the new Land Cruiser might hit the showroom floors, later this august.
