An all-electric C8 Chevrolet Corvette might come out as well
The 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette will be the first of its kind. Reason? For the first time in its lifespan of 67 years, the American icon will be featuring a mid-engine setup. Furthermore, reports suggest that the 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette could very well be boasting both hybrid and pure-electric variants. While the possibilities of mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions are certainly more than the pure-electric C8 Corvette, we won’t rest the speculation down entirely.
When asked about whether Chevrolet could equip the 2020 C8 Corvette with a battery-based starter motor mild hybrid or a small motor to make up an all-wheel-drive layout, a Corvette project member said, “You would not look stupid if you said that. Chevrolet is also committed to a 0-0-0 strategy, which stands for zero emissions, zero crashes, and zero congestion cited Mark Reuss, who is the General Motors president.
On the question of an all-electric version of the sports car being the works, “We’ll see. Stay tuned,” said Ruess. “All of the technology rolling into this vehicle is meant to support that. This platform can carry a lot of different things into the future for General Motors”, he added. Another good news coming out for Corvette lovers from around the globe is that the American automobile manufacturer will also be offering a right-hand-drive model of the C8 Corvette. In case you’re still not aware of the power that the 2020 C8 Corvette packs in its arsenal, the American sports icon gets 495 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 637 Nm thanks to its naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V8. Interestingly, these figures are of the base trim only, the higher-end models should be packing much more.
Speaking more of the mechanicals on the 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette, the sports car features an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Combine this slick gearbox with the more than capable motor and you get a 0-97 kmph run in less than 3 seconds. Z51 Performance Package, however, is needed for the astonishingly quick 0-97 kmph run. How excited are you for the all-new and better than ever Corvette? We bet you can’t stop licking your lips, can you?
