Ford Edge

The mid-size crossover segment is the most lucrative segment in the US automobile market. No doubt automakers are taking every effort to strengthen their position in this booming segment. There are plenty of mid-size crossovers in the market today, and one of the popular ones is the Ford Edge. It was introduced back in 2006, and the second generation of the vehicle has been with us since 2015. Recently, Ford updated the Edge 2019 with a refreshed front design, new alloy wheels, a new 2.0-litre EcoBoost Turbocharged engine, and other feature upgrades. The Edge 2019 is an excellent SUV for families as it offers the best combination of cargo and passenger space, along with high safety and reliability ratings. It is offered in four variants - SE, SEL, Titanium, and ST, all of which are powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged inline-four engine. The base variant is capable of generating a max power of 250 hp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 280 lb-ft at 3,000 rpm. The engine can be paired with front- or all-wheel drive, and a new eight-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties. Ford claims that the Edge SE delivers 22mpg while being driven in the city and 29mpg while cruising through highways. At the front, one can spot a bright grille, auto high-beam headlamps, with LED configurable DRLs, and large windshield with intermittent speed-sensitive front windshield wipers. The door handles and the rear spoiler are both body-colored. There are 10 paint schemes to choose from - Ruby Red, Baltic Sea Green, Agate Black, Burgundy Velvet, Ingot Silver, White Platinum, Blue, Stone Gray, Oxford White and Magnetic.

The cabin is very comfortable and quiet. It poses a simple and understated design, with plenty of room for people and cargo. The Edge’s cabin is pretty spacious for four adults cruising on a road trip or city commute. At the front, you get heated/cooled seats to offer optimal comfort. The manual tilt/telescoping steering column is mounted with cruise control and secondary audio controls. There’s plenty of space behind the second row to stack your luggage, 39 cubic feet to be precise. The Ford Edge 2019 comes with a range of safety features, including Personal Safety System, side-impact airbag, front and second-row safety canopy, side-curtain with rollover sensor, SOS Post-Crash Alert System, belt-minder, child-safety rear door locks, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and driver knee airbag. Every Edge comes with Ford’s new Co-Pilot360 suite of driver’s aids, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping technology, automatic high-beam assist and a backup camera. The Post-Collision Braking system potentially lessens the severity of a secondary collision by automatically applying moderate brake pressure when a first collision event is detected. It also comes with the Ford Pass Connect, which helps you lock, unlock and start the vehicle automatically. Ford offers 36,000 miles or 3 years’ limited warranty on the Edge along with 60,000 miles or 5 years’ powertrain warranty. The base variant of the Ford Edge 2019 retails at $29,995, while the top-spec variant retails at $42,355 (all prices MSRP). It competes against the likes of the Nissan Murano, the Chevy Blazer and the Honda Passport.
