Honda Civic might be one of the most popular offerings in the segment but when it comes to sheer value for money, the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze cannot be ignored. For the 2019 model, Chevrolet has refreshed the design and now the all-new compact sedan/hatch features a tweaked front grille, tail lamps, wheels, and front and rear bumpers. Chevrolet also offers a new interior color scheme and the RS package has now been modified to include emblems and windows surrounds which have been painted black.

What sets Chevrolet Cruze apart from the competition is its comfortable ride, space, and luxury-adjacent hi-tech features. With almost two dozen rivals in the compact car segment, Chevrolet Cruze has its work cut out for it which is why it is reasonable that the car falls short in certain aspects. Kicking things off with the interior both hatchback and sedan body types of Chevrolet Cruze get identical cabin space including head- and legroom. The power-adjustable driver seat is only offered as standard in the ‘Premier’ trim level but the standard seats also manage to offer commendable comfort even in the more and inexpensive variants.

Other features offered in the ‘Premier' trim level includes heated seats and heated steering wheel but by far the biggest let down in the 2019 Cruze is the cruise control which the company does not offer as standard. The infotainment duties are carried out by Chevrolet SmartLink infotainment system. The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze gets a standard 7-inch touch screen display which comes with Apple Carplay and Android Auto as standard along with 4G-LTE powered Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity.

With a wide range of models that includes up to 9 variants, customers have that pic at the litter for the car of their choice. The 2019 Chevrolet Cruze lineup includes a large variety of models featuring different body types and engine options. Prices for the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze start with the standard ‘L’ sedan at $17,995 followed by the ‘LS’ hatch and ‘LS’ sedan featuring prices starting at $19,620 and $19,120, respectively. The mid-range models include the ‘LT’ hatch and the ‘LT’ sedan with prices starting at $22,120 and $21,720, respectively. The top of the range ‘Premier’ trim level is also available in both sedan and hatchback body types with prices for the hatchback starting at $24,020 and those for the sedan starting at $23,520.

Chevrolet Cruze is also available with a 1.6-liter turbocharge Diesel powerplant in both hatchback and sedan body types with prices starting from $26,120 and $25,620 respectively. The diesel motor comes meted to do a 9-speed automatic transmission and gets features like an 8-way electronically adjustable power driver seat as standard. The diesel engine is quite frugal and offers an EPA estimated a combined fuel economy of 37 mpg which even outshines that offered by many hybrids.

The 1.4-liter turbo EcoTech 4 cylinder engine produces 153 BHP e at 5600 RPM and 177 lb-ft of torque between 2000 and 4000 RPM. The 1.4-liter turbocharged unit is shared across the ‘L’, ‘LS’, ‘LT’ and ‘Premier’ levels in both hatchback and sedan body types. The gasoline powerplant is available with either a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. EPA estimates that the 1.4 turbocharged unit is capable of offering a combined fuel economy of 32 mpg.

Even though Chevrolet Cruze performed well in crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, several of its driver assistance features are only offered as optional extras which include automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning and forward collision warning as part of the Driver Confidence II Package.
