Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport revealed
Volkswagen America has finally unveiled the new Atlas Cross Sport to the media recently. Before this, the prototype of the SUV was showcased at the New York Show in March 2018, and then at Auto Shanghai in April 2019 as the Teramont X concept.
The Atlas Cross Sport Concept is a five-seater version of the Atlas launched in the country in 2017, as a seven-seater SUV. Besides this, the new Coupe SUV is different from standard Atlas on several grounds.
If we talk about the Atlas Cross Sport dimensions, it is 4,955 mm long and 1,720 mm tall which means it is 71 mm shorter and 58 mm lower than standard Atlas. The width and wheelbase remain the same with 1,989 mm and 2,979 mm, which extends the rear seat legroom by approx 1 metre. The trunk space is 1,141 litres, expandable up to 2,203 litres.
On the exterior, the Atlas Coupe gets new styling appointments. The redesigned bumper, bonnet, and three-bar front-grille pose the aggressive appearance of the vehicle. The middle bar is connected with the new LED daytime running lights. And at the rear, new L-shaped tail-lights, new bumper, and new logo complete the look.
The oily bits are the same as the earlier Atlas, which is powered by the following engine options paired with an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission:
- 2.0 litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder unit producing 235 PS of power
- 3.6 litre naturally-aspirated V6 unit delivering 276 PS of power
Inside the cabin, the changes done on Volkswagen Atlas specs sheet include:
- Redesigned steering wheel
- Accent stitching on the doors and seats
- Qi wireless smartphone charging
- Optional features include Volkswagen Digital Cockpit instrument display, 12-speaker Fender sound system, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats and so on.
The new Atlas Sport safety features include:
- Standard autonomous emergency braking
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Rear cross-traffic alert
Adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist are also available for driving assistance.
