Toyota Supra getting a manual from a European Auto Group
2020 Toyota Supra is a pretty fast car, and the manufacturer has claimed that it can achieve a sprint of 0 to 60 miles per hour under four seconds, which is an imposing figure considering its motor churns out 335 hp. But, what it lacks is a manual gearbox. Not only the engine is responsible for the performance of the Supra, but another key ingredient responsible for the thrust of this car is also the ZF eight-speed gearbox. Love it or hate it, the automatic transmission can rip shifts quicker as compared to any human with the clutch pedal. That’s the reason why the carmaker refuses to bring the manual transmission.
That’s where European Auto Group arrives. It is the same brand that is introducing flappy-paddle Ferraris with gated manual shifters. They are already working on a manual transmission for the Toyota Supra that will utilise all the BMW sourced parts. This signifies that the transmission should match well with the 3.0-litre inline-six engine present under the hood. In addition to that, the Texas-based workshop is also thinking of a shifter with a funky flip-up knob, just like the one present in the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept.
Such changes might satisfy some of the Supra’s critics, but there are still loads of fanboys upset with BMW supplying the powertrain. Moreover, a brand-new 2020 drift car made its appearance with a full-on Toyota 2JZ engine swap, including manual transmission. Now, European Auto Group is all-set to interchange the Supra’s automatic gearbox. Regardless of the transmission, there’s no denying the Supra is an outstanding performance machine, both in corners and straight line.
