Electric Ford Transit to be made in the US, launch slated for 2022
Ford has been doing really well with vans in the United States. In fact, it has managed to deliver 59,930 units in the last quarter of 2019, which happens to make the best performance for the automaker since 1978.
Keeping that aside, even the van and truck fleet has been a booming market of late and Ford is looking to encash on the same. The American auto giant will now keep the momentum of its high sales with a pure electric version of the Transit van. The announcement has been made public and the EV might be launched in the US by the end of 2021 for the 2022 model year.
Ford has also revealed an outline sketch of the Transit EV, which does not reveal much anyway. The outlined silhouette is similar to the combustion version of the Transit, and we can expect some bits of changes to differentiate it from the IC counterpart.
According to Jim Farley, the COO at Ford, commercial vehicles will play a huge role in the future of electrification. Since Ford has been one of the top players in this category, it will thrive to offer the fleet owners with vehicles that will help them grow. EVs have a pure advantage over the general IC vehicles. Fleet owners can take advantage of low maintenance, low operating cost, etc., to boost their businesses.
The Ford Transit EV will be produced in the US itself and will have many body styles for the buyers to choose from. Some of the body styles include cargo, chassis cab, cutaway, three body lengths, and three roof heights. More details on the specification will be revealed on a later date.
