Volkswagen e-Golf Review 2024
The Volkswagen e-Golf has been a big name in itself. The electric hatch has been perceived as the standard Golf, both in terms of handling and carrying capacity. However, the quirkiest aspect of this car is that it can be easily confused with the standard ICE counterpart, unlike certain other EVs.
Being thrown to rival the Nissan Leaf and the Tesla Model 3, the German company has given over everything to the car, including the confirmation that it would go on sale in the Canadian market in 2020.

Volkswagen e-Golf Interior & Features
The Volkswagen e-Golf is a very plush car from the inside. The occupants will absolutely love the Climatronic dual-zone automatic climate control and heated front seats. The seats are wrapped in V-Tex leatherette upholstery.
The dashboard hosts a 9.25-inch touchscreen display that gets Discover Pro navigation and voice control. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, even in the base trim with 8.0-inch infotainment display. The cargo space is massive, thanks to the 22.8 cubic-feet of space, that too with the rear seat in place. Fold it and you will get a humongous space to store up to 15 carry-on suitcases.
e-Golf Exterior
The Volkswagen e-Golf looks like a very sane hatchback and won’t give you the impression of being a combustion car. The subtle, yet smooth-flowing lines all across and the sleek front fascia manages to impress a lot of souls. The automatic LED headlamps at the front will remind you of the conventional Volkswagen theme.
The car rides of 16-inch wheels that are trimmed in the 5-spoke diamond-turned alloy wheels. The wheels are shod in 205-section all-season tires. The windshields that are used for the hatch are very impressive and have the electronic heating feature. With the help of these, your windows will never be hazy with humidity.
Volkswagen e-Golf Ride & Handling
If you are on the driver’s seat of the Volkswagen e-Golf, you will love a lot of things other than just the heated seats and lumbar support. The steering is on point and very accurate. The compact build makes the car very fun-to-drive and nimble too. However, this nimbleness does not affect the handling as it does not stray away from its path, not even slightly.
The strut-type suspension up front and multi-link at the rear have telescopic dampers, which tends to be very compliant with road bumps.
e-Golf Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Volkswagen e-Golf has a powerful motor under the hood, despite the design not giving the same impression. It has the 100kW mill that churns out 134 hp and 290 Nm of torque. The produced power is channeled to the front wheel, which indicates that the car isn’t made for a sportier ride.
However, despite this, the car is decently fast and zippy. It can hit the 0-60 mph mark in around 8.5 seconds, which is decent by EV standards, though slower than most of its competitors.
Volkswagen e-Golf Braking & Safety
The Volkswagen e-Golf does not lag behind in the braking department as well. The front wheels have ventilated brake rotors while the rear has solid discs. ABS is standard for all the wheels and so is electronic brakeforce distribution.
Other safety bits include electronic stability control, which comes as standard, anti-Slip regulation, hydraulic brake assist. Inside the cabin, there are air-bags all around to ensure utmost safety of all the occupants. The seatbelts have load limiters and pretensioner as default.
e-Golf Verdict
If you look at the Volkswagen e-Golf individually, you will love the way it performs and handles. But it is only when you compare it with its competitors that it appears sedated and inferior. After all, the driving range and initial sprint are lower than that of some of its competitors.
However, considering the plush feel of the cabin and the immensely huge cargo storing capacity, the hatch is the go-to option for you. Though there are two trims on offer - SE and SEL Premium, the features offered in each aren’t very contrastingly different.
