Audi Q3

Audi has refreshed the smallest SUV in its portfolio, the 2019 Audi Q3 is a step up from the previous model which on paper could not stand its ground against rivals like the Lexus NX, BMW X1, and Mercedes Benz GLA. It seems that Audi’s attention was not just limited to upgrading the features of its compact SUV. Audi has also tweaked the exterior of the new Q3, making it arguably one of the most stylish cars in the segment.

The exteriors now flaunt the same design language as the rest of the Audi portfolio for 2019. At the front, we find a sharper octagonal grill instead of the old hexagonal design and angular headlamps. The 2019 Q3 is larger than its predecessor as it uses the Volkswagen groups MQB transverse engine architecture as its underpinnings. The use of this platform not only makes the new Q3 longer than its predecessor but also wider. The new compact SUV also features flared fenders which add to its bold muscular design.

Audi also offers customizable options for the Q3 like the side sills, bumpers and diffuser which can also be ordered in different colors. There is also an optional ‘S package’ available which offers different options for the sills, bumper and diffuser trims. Audi also offers an option of three different headlamp units all of which are LED units.

The 2019 Audi Q3’s interiors are available in three trims Base, S line and the ‘Audi Design Selection’. All of these interior trims can be combined with the exterior ‘S package’. The ‘S line and ‘Audi Design Selection trim come with sports seats which can be wrapped in a choice of leather, microsuede or artificial leather material. These trims also have the option of incorporating microsuede trims into the armrest and dashboard panels. 

In the middle of the dashboard, sits a 10.3-inch touchscreen display which is encased in a large octagonal glossy black panel. Audio also offers a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit which is now also available on the base trim level for the 2019 model. 

The 2019 Q3 is available in three trim levels which include the Premium (base), Premium Plus (midrange) and Prestige (top end) trims. Both Premium and Premium Plus trim levels offer two model options. The pricing for Premium term starts at $34700 and a more expensive model with additional features is priced at $36,000. Similarly, the Premium Plus trim range starts at $37,800 with more expensive option priced at $39,100. The top-of-the-range Prestige trim features a $42,900 price tag and gets a Bang and Olufsen 3D Premium sound system with 15 speakers as standard.

All five models across the three trim levels of the 2019 Audi Q3 feature the same 2-liter turbocharged unit which produces 228 BHP of power and 258 lb-ft of torque. The powerplant comes mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission which sends power to all four wheels using Audi’s trademark Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The 2019 Q3 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7 seconds and features an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph.

For the 2019 Q3, Audi offers active safety features like an adaptive cruise control which is a combination of traffic jam assist, lane changing warning, radar cruise control and active lane-keeping assist. Optional driver assistance and safety features include collision mitigation, lane departure warning with mitigation and park assist for both perpendicular and parallel spots. The 2019 Audi Q3 has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
