The new Shelby GT500 is being sold for as much as $170,000
Iconic cars going for big money is nothing new. We have already seen many of them going for way more than their MSRP on numerous occasions. And, on this occasion, some of the Ford dealerships in the US are demanding some outrageous prices for the all-new Shelby GT500. Keep in mind that the new GT500 starts at just $70,300, while a few dealerships are selling the option-loaded 760 hp American muscle car for as much as $170,000.
Although the blue oval automaker has already been questioned, Ford is yet to deliver an official statement regarding some of its dealerships asking crazy prices for the GT500. On top of the MSRP of $70,300, the new Shelby GT500 can be equipped with optional packages such as Carbon Fiber Track pack that costs $18,500, Technology package at $3,000, and others. Note that these optional packages can take the effective price of the new Shelby GT500 beyond $100,000.
As far as the outrageous prices are concerned, the dealership in Thousand Oaks, California is demanding around $170,000 for the muscle car. What makes this asking price even more absurd is the fact that this particular model doesn't wear much optional equipment and yet carries a premium of good $96,000.
Move to Sterling, Virginia, and there is a dealership asking $145,890 for the GT500. Although this particular GT500 gets the carbon fibre track package, the technology package, and the painted stripes along with a few other elements, the asking price is still $40,000 more than the effective price that includes all of the optional packages. So, if you are also looking forward to getting yourself a Shelby GT500 anytime soon, you better visit a dealership that is offering the American Muscle car at its real price.
