No Blackwing V8 for the Cadillac CT5-V and Escalade

While we were all hoping for the Cadillac's twin-turbocharged Blackwing V8 engine to make its way to the upcoming CT5-V, Escalade, and some other models by the automaker, the dream will, however, won't be realized.

Instead, Cadillac has decided to preserve the twin-turbocharged 4.2-litre V8 Blackwing motor for the CT6-V. In case the V8 could go under the hood of the CT5-V, Escalade, and others, the model mentioned here could have been blessed with good 550 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 867 Nm.

With that in place now, the likes of the Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V might have to do with the 320 hp and 355 hp that they hold in their armouries. Not too far ago, talks were there to equip with CT5 sedan and the XT6 crossover with the Omega rear-wheel-drive platform, which is also used in the CT6. While doing that would have made the V8 Blackwing fit the CT5 and the XT6 without a fuss, change in plans has led to Cadillac not performing the surgery. Moreover, the automaker has stated that the plan was scrapped because to save on high costs involved in it.

Since the proposition is now done and dusted, the Escalade SUV will also have to do with a GM-sourced pushrod V8. It might be either of the  5.3-litre, 6.2-litre, or the 6.6-litre mill that Cadillac is already having at its facilities.

Speaking of the current-gen Cadillac Escalade, the SUV is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 that is good enough for 420 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 624 Nm. The all-new Cadillac CT5-V is around the corner, and now because it won't be getting the Blackwing V8, it might get Camaro's 6.2-litre V8 as both the cars are based on the Alpha platform.
