Lordstown enters the EV pickup battleground with its “Endurance”

While it has been quite some time since electric cars have started becoming more and more mainstream. Automakers such as Tesla, Nissan, and now even BMW and others have started joining the fleet with their pure-electric offerings. It took quite a while for the all-electric sedan, hatchback, and SUV cars to prove their mettle and induct a belief of their capabilities and reliabilities in the minds of the masses. And now, the time has come for the EV pickup trucks to make a move and replace the fuel-guzzling pickup trucks that are powered by the internal combustion engines.

We have already seen the Tesla Cybertruck and the Rivian R1T promising an interesting and exciting future of pickups, and the latest entrant in the form of the Lordstown Endurance further gives a boost to the same. With its base price set at $52,500, the Lordstown Endurance is claimed to have a single-charge EPA range of 200 miles (320 km), minimum.

Coming on to the mechanical bits that the automaker has revealed concerning its Endurance pickup truck, four in-wheel hub motors power the EV pickup and generate a total power output of 600 hp. While other automakers, who use an electric motor to power the wheels via an axle, Lordstown has opted for a rather unusual approach. Moreover, the Endurance will get "Over the Air Updates" and feature an off-board power of 3.6 kW (120V, 30 A).

Moving on, even though Lordstown has not revealed the battery pack capacity yet, a 200 miles range suggests that the Endurance might sport a 70 kWh battery pack. Furthermore, the EV pickup truck is said to have a towing capacity of 6,000 lbs (2,721 kg) and space for 5 adults to sit inside. As for the charging times, while standard AC charging will juice up the battery pack in 10 hours (7 kW, up to 95% SOC), faster DC charging will do the same in 0.5- to 1.5-hour. The top speed is rated at 80 mph (128 kmph).

That's about it then, at least for now. The Lordstown Endurance does seem to be a capable pickup truck, albeit the low top speed and the hub motors that are not highly preferred in the industry for commercial usage. Anyway, stay tuned to ZigWheels US for further updates regarding the Lordstown Endurance as we will keep on serving all that you need to know about the upcoming EV pickup and even more from and around the automotive industry.
