Ford and Lincoln to crossover for new models
Since announcing about their plans on battery EV in 2018, Ford has mostly been quiet. But rumours are stating that Ford and Lincoln will be performing a crossover for their new electronic vehicle. According to the sources, the code names for these two vehicles are CDX746 and CDX747. The sources with enough knowledge tell that these two models were shifted from the company’s Cuautitlan plant in Mexico to the plant in Flat Rock in Michigan.
While talking about the models, one of the spokespeople said that the suppliers to be prepared for up to 65,000 units. The models are set to launch in 2023, while the productions will start in either late 2022 or early 2023 though the spokesperson has refrained from commenting by citing no comments on the future vehicle policy.
Lincoln, Ford’s slow-selling continental model, is set to be replaced by the new battery EV in this crossover. The model will be produced in China, though. But whether the company will import the model from China for the US market is still not clear. Last year, the company axed its plans of importing the Ford Focus Active from China by showing tariff concerns.
In 2018, Ford told that it would invest $11 billion towards global electrification. It set up a deadline of 2022 to add 16 new battery EVs globally. Ford, till date, has confirmed a Mustang-inspired crossover and an Electric F-150. An EV, co-developed with Rivian is in talks, but it has not been determined yet. The first Ford battery EV, the Mustang-inspired crossover is set to go on sale next year. It will be built in the Cuautitlan plant where the production of the Ford Fiesta is to be stopped by the end of the month.
