BMW ‘M’ models facing problem over transmission, recalled

BMW has recalled its ‘M’ models in America due to issues over the transmission of the car. The problem in the transmission could cause extensive damage, leading to accidents.

The automaker has recalled BMW M5, M8, X5 M, and X6 M as the wiring harness of the series could be damaged due to its location and routing. Causing the vehicle to lose its gear shifting abilities and causing hindrance in shifting to Neutral. This could also lead to a short circuit, resulting in a crash. 

The company stated that vehicles that have already reached dealers after facing the transmission issues, might have to wait for some time. To fix the problem, technicians will replace the transmission wiring harness, and reroute it to a safer position. Also, the automaker might not sell its M series until the harness is replaced and rerouted in early 2020. 

Moreover, BMW has issued a stop-sale and recall notice to its dealers and has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the problem. All the vehicles that are affected by the problem are said to be manufactured between January 30 and November 27, 2019.

Speaking about the renowned BMW M5 specs, it comes in two variants- Standard and Competition. Both the variants come equipped with a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine which produces 600 horsepower (617 hp for the Competition) and 750 Nm of torque. Putting the power to all four wheels with an eight-speed automatic transmission. 

As advanced safety features, the automaker had included Dynamic Stability Control, Parking Assistant Plus, BMW Night Vision With Person Recognition, Driving Assistant Plus, Dynamic Safety, and Real-Time Traffic Information in its offering.
