BMW M5

The 2019 BMW M5 is the Bavarian carmaker's flagship performance sedan and comes equipped with state-of-the-art electronics, Hi-Tech entertainment features and finely tuned high-performance engine options which come together to bestow the ultimate driving experience upon the driver. The 2019 BMW M5 features an all-new design which comes with a carbon-fiber roof that helps maintain a low center of gravity and reduces weight. Other distinctive design components include a weight-optimized quad tailpipe exhaust system, M rear apron with diffuser and an M rear spoiler. The new BMW M5 also features contrasting black styling elements like the large kidney grille, side gills, mirror caps and tailpipe amongst others.

Inside the cabin, BMW offers a more premium interior as compared to its previous iterations which featured more race-oriented, sportier designs. Passengers will sit surrounded by a tastefully crafted cabin featuring a combination of carbon fiber and leather accents. The leather seats are fitted to offer optimum driving position while being comfortable and supportive. The interior gets a driver-focused design and comes with features like adaptive full LED headlights, heads up display and a 12.3-inch dynamic digital instrument cluster as standard. There is also a large touchscreen infotainment cluster which sits atop the dashboard right in the middle of the cabin and comes with BMW latest iDrive technology. The rotatory knob control for the system is located in the center console providing the driver with ease of access.

2019 BMW M5 sedan is offered in two variants which include a base model featuring price tags starting from $102,700 and a top-of-the-line M5 Competition model featuring prices starting from $110,000. Both variants feature the same 4.4-liter BMW M Performance TwinPower Turbo V8 engine. However, the powerplant is offered in different states of tunes for both cars. The base model for BMW M5 gets a 600 BHP unit which also produces 553 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful motor in the Competition variant produces 617 BHP of power and 553 lb-ft of torque and features a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 3.1 seconds whereas it takes the standard M5 3.2 seconds to make the same run. 

Both engines are paired to the same 8 speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and launch control. In both models, all the power is sent to the company's active M differential which can be used to power all four wheels using BMW’s M xDrive RWD system which also comes with two-wheel drive capability.  Both Competition and Standard variants of the 2019 BMW M5 feature the same 156 mph top speed. BMW also offers performance features like electronically controlled engine cooling and brake energy regeneration system in the 2019 M5.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not tested the BMW M5 for crash test safety yet and therefore has not provided any safety rating to the BMW’s flagship performance sedan. Some standard safety and driver assistance features offered in the 2019 BMW M5 include lane departure warning, active blind-spot detection, daytime pedestrian protection and frontal collision warning with city collision mitigation.
