60 MPH in 3.3 secs, that’s 2020 Shelby GT500
It was only a while back when Ford officially announced the 760 hp Shelby’s 0 to 60 run time of 3.3 seconds.
Well, that’s a bit faster than the last Mustang that wore the GT500 badge, i.e., the 662 hp churning 2014 model. Its official 0 to 60 time was 3.5 seconds; that’s just an improvement by two-tenth. However, the power figure differs by a good 100 hp. Making the run time official seems rather convenient for the automaker, as the new Shelby GT500 has a lower top-speed over its predecessor.
We are in no way disgracing Ford for coming up with a car that doesn’t necessary outperforms the 5-year model, we, however, are doing quite the opposite. The 2020 Shelby GT500 has a front-engine that delivers power to rear wheels, so the primary catalyst for a 60 mph run is traction. And there even comes a time when best street tiers and gobs of power are not able to overcome the invisible traction hurdle. As a solution, the automaker either moves the mill to the rear like in the case of Corvette or built a super-soft suspension for optimal weight transfer like the Challenger SRT Demon.
The eye-opener, in this case, is the quarter-mile time that is a second better than the previous Shelby. The credit of which goes to 100 hp of extra power and quick-shifting DCT. Talking about the top speed, the old GT500 could reach 200 mph; however, it missed the amazing aero package the current car boost.
Overall the new Shelby GT500 is a combination of great handling, brute force, and is best for every-day usability.
