2020 Mercedes GLC 350e PHEV gains more torque

The all-new Mercedes GLC 350e PHEV has come up with the refreshed version for the year 2020. The vehicle does not have only cosmetic changes, but it gets more torque as well, which is going to attract the buyers The vehicle is powered with four-cylinder 2.0-litre gasoline engine mated with an electric motor producing the combined power of 315 PS and a peak torque of 700 Nm. In comparison to the current 2019 model, the power remains the same but the torque witnesses an important positive change of 140 Nm, the credit goes to the third-gen PHEV technology of the firm.

The seven-speed automatic transmission is replaced with a nine-speed box and the electric motor has been upgraded to make compatible with the 9G-TRONIC transmission and the PHEV setup, which now delivers a significant increase in power and torque density. The vehicle is now provided with a torque converter with an integrated lockup clutch serving as a starting device, and an extra clutch has been installed for electric driving between the electric motor and the combustion engine.

The new on-board charger enhances the charging capacity of the vehicle from 3.6 kW to 7.4 kW. Through battery, PHEV GLC can cover a distance of approx 46-49 kilometres without any fuel consumption as per NEDC. The range drops to 39 - 43 km in more realistic conditions. According to EPA, the earlier version could do up to 14.5 km. Further, the vehicle is equipped with a bigger 13.5-kWh battery pack. Upon charging at 1.2 kW, it will require almost eight hours to go from 10% to 100%, whereas at 3.8 kW the required time for 10% to 80% charge will be around two hours.

In the context of performance, the electrified GLC will do 0 to 96 kmph run in 5.6 seconds, which makes it 0.6s quicker than the earlier version. Nothing has been disclosed about the total speed yet, but the predecessor has 209 kmph with the ICE running and limited to 135 kmph in electric mode. After the official premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the electrified crossover will go on sale in the US in the first half of 2020. The pricing has not yet announced, but the existing model pricing at $50,650.
