The Kia Sorento is a three-row crossover which is prepping for a generation change in the coming months. While there is some time before the next-gen Sorento comes in, Kia has given subtle updates to the crossover to keep customers’ interest alive. The 2019 Kia Sorento is available in seven variants-L, LX, LX V6, S V6, EX V6, SX and SX Limited. Prices for the 2019 Kia Sorento start from $ 26,290, the LX trim is priced at $27,650, LX V6 at $31,290, S V6 at $32,690, EX V6 at $35,590, SX at $39,990 and the top-of-the-line SX Limited at $44,690 (all prices MSRP). Under the bonnet, there is a V6 engine, conjunct to an automatic gearbox that sends the drive to all four wheels. There is an additional four-cylinder unit which powers the lower trims.
With superficial modifications made to the crossover, it is hard to pin-point styling tweaks at a glance. A closer look to the three-row crossover reveals the cosmetic changes made to the exterior. The excessive chrome work from the previous version has been retained, especially at front and sides. Most of the changes are visible on the face as it sports new headlamps. The Sharp LED-equipped fog lamps with chrome housings are restricted to the top-spec SXL trim. Move to the sides and you will notice the all-new 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped around the meaty tyres. At the back, there are LED tail-lamps reminiscing the headlamps in front. It additionally sports redesigned diffuser and chrome accent around fog lamps.
Akin to the exterior, the cabin receives mild changes such as a reworked steering wheel, restyled air vents and tweaked instrument cluster graphics. Also new to the three-row crossover is the panoramic moonroof. Besides, the Nappa leather seat covers are optional, it can be availed in mahogany and terracotta shades. Power lumbar support for the co-passenger and driver seat is specific to the SX and SXL variants. The three-row crossover accommodates seven passengers, a standard seating configuration across the line-up. In terms of space, the third row is a bit cramped, making it unfit to seat adults. While the 7-inch touchscreen is offered with the base trims, a larger 8-inch unit is reserved for the top-spec SXL grade which additionally gets Kia’s Uvo infotainment system with access to satellite radio and navigation. Features like wireless charging pad and the Harman Kardon QuantumLogic surround sound are optional.
The 2.0-litre turbocharged unit powering the preceding model has been dropped, albeit the 2.4-litre four-cylinder and 3.3-litre V6 engines have been retained. In terms of output, the four-cylinder engine makes 185hp and the V6 engine pumps out 290Hp. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed AT on the four-cylinder unit and an eight-speed auto box that is paired to the 3.3-litre engine.
Safety has been taken care of with forward-collision warning system, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alerts, and a surround-view monitoring system offered on the carline depending on the variant one picks. In addition to the aforementioned tech, it also packs dual front airbags, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, side curtains in first and second rows, rollover sensor, 4-wheel disc brakes, etc.
