2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid debuts at Chicago Auto Show
The non-plug-in hybrid version of 2020 Hyundai Sonata has finally arrived in the US market. Hyundai introduced the car yesterday at the Chicago Auto Show in North America. However, the sedan was revealed in July last year as a hybrid version of the eighth-gen Sonata, which itself debuted in 2019, April.
Pertaining to the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, one cannot finish without telling about its one of the most highlighted add-ons. The car comes with a solar panel on its roof, which is claimed to increase the range of driving over the course of a year. The solar panel will charge the batteries and according to the carmaker it will “increase the driving range by a couple of miles after 6 hours of charging." Hyundai also said that this system will provide an additional 700 miles of range in a year. Moreover, the Blue trim model, which is efficiency-focused, comes with a 686-mile driving range.
Speaking of its mechanism, 2020 Sonata Hybrid gets a four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that pushes out a maximum power of 150 hp and a peak torque of 189 Nm. The electric motor can churn out a maximum power of 53 hp and a peak torque of 205 Nm and along with this, the total output of the system will be 192 hp. The engine combination is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox, which gets Hyundai’s Active Shift Control system. The system can work with the engine, electric motor, and transmission and reduce the shift times by 30 percent.
Apart from this, Hyundai has also incorporated some upgrades to deliver the body better aerodynamics. The car gets air deflectors at the fenders at both ends and active grille flaps. There are also panels that cover the underside of the car. Even the spoke design of the wheel has also been upgraded for the aerodynamics purpose.
Inside the cabin, the 8-inch infotainment system is standard but it can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The safety features include Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Advanced Smart Cruise Control and more.
2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will go on sale in the US from spring onwards.
