Nissan Frontier Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
With a starting price of $19,290, Nissan Frontier is the most affordable Pickup Truck in the segment. It is available in two engine options, the fuel-efficient 2.5L 4-cylinder, and a powerful 4.0L V6 engine. This year’s Frontier doesn’t get any special upgrade except the 7-inch touchscreen display is now standard among all the grades. Frontier is loaded with high-tech driving assistance and safety features that ensure content ride quality. When it comes to the cabin, Frontier is spacious inside and offers comfortable seating for both front and second row passengers. While the cold and modest front fascia and fuel-efficient engine intend it as a business pickup truck with better off-road capability. Nissan Frontier line up is classified into King Cab and Crew Cab grades. King trims offer a seating capacity of four passengers while Crew cab can accommodate up to five passengers. With a wide range of available grades between the range of $19,290 — $34,310, Nissan Frontier has cornered the rivals, such as Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tundra, RAM 1500, and Honda Ridgeline.

Nissan Frontier Interior & Features
Being available in two body types, the Crew Cab can accommodate up to five people while King Cab offers seating space of up to four. Meanwhile, the wider seats are available with the fabric upholstery and are extremely comfortable. The driver seat is 8-way power-adjustable while the passenger seat is 4-way power-adjustable with lumbar support. However, the second row of King cab is a little cramped and is suited for children. Though Crew cab offers seating capacity for five, still, due to cramped legroom and headroom, the second row is not suitable for taller persons. The old fashioned cabin of Nissan Frontier looks unattractive. Whereas the excessive use of hard plastic degrades the quality but at the same time gives it a solid finish which makes it a work-truck rather than an offroad companion. Moreover, in terms of tech convenience, inside Frontier, you’ll get a 7-inch touchscreen display, power windows with driver’s one-touch auto-down, auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone temperature control, cruise control, and Bluetooth audio streaming. The music is streamlined inside the cabin via Rockford Fosgate powered audio system with ten speakers, including a subwoofer. While it lacks phone mirroring techs like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Frontier Exterior
Nissan Frontier is the perfect pack of stylish appearance and powerful performance. However, it’s carrying almost identical exterior design from the last decade. The solid front fascia is backed by the distinguishing traditional grille which is sectioned into three frames. While on the sides, the automatic halogen headlamps match the zeal of pickup truck buyers and resemble a simple yet trendy appearance. Frontier is available in two body types- King Cab and Crew Cab. King Cab offers a large bed with a small cabin, and Crew Cab comes with a big cabin but a small bed. Being a conventional pickup truck, Nissan Frontier doesn’t have many exciting elements added to its exterior character. Though, it is available with 18-inch all-season tires, dual power outside mirrors, fog lights, and power sliding glass moonroof.
Nissan Frontier Ride & Handling
Nissan Frontier features a high stance and provides a great ground clearance of 8.7 inches that makes it the right fit for offroad adventures. In the front, the independent double-wishbone suspension helps in maintaining grip while the over slung multi-leaf rear suspension ensures high load durability and helps in enhancing off-road capabilities. Moreover, the handling of Frontier is not as good as some of its rivals like Toyota Tacoma. However, the engine speed-sensitive power steering provides stable handling and keep the vehicle in control when turning sharp corners.
Frontier Engine & Fuel Consumption
Nissan Frontier is available in two engine types: a less potent but fuel-efficient 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and a powerful 4.0L V6 engine. The first one is available with selected grades S and SV. This engine can produce a maximum power of 152 hp at 5,200 rpm and torque of 171 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm. The 2.5L engine ensures ample power while delivering efficient mileage of 21 MPG. Whereas, the rest of the grades including the base variant of Frontier are mated with the 4.0L V6 engine which churns out a maximum power of 261 hp at 5,600 rpm and torque of 281 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm. Unlike the 2.5L engine, V6 gets you ample power to get the job done while delivering the mileage of 18 MPG. In terms of transmission, Frontier is offered in 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and 5-speed automatic. Furthermore, the base grade S and SV are mated with the 5-speed transmission box, while the 6-speed transmission is available in the S, SV V6, and Pro 4X, and the automatic powertrain is available among all the grades. Being a mid-size compact pickup truck Frontier can two up to 6,270 lbs.
Nissan Frontier Braking & Safety
Nissan Frontier is provided with four-wheel vented disc brakes, Anti-lock Braking System, and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. Moreover, the Active Brake Limited Slip system senses the movement of the slipping wheel and applies brakes while sending the additional power to the wheels that have a stronghold on the road. On the safety front, Frontier isn’t well equipped with many active safety features that are standard in its rivals like Lane Departure Control, Trailer Sway Warning, etc. Whereas with Frontier, you’ll get Vehicle Dynamics Control with Traction Control System, and Active Brake Limited Slip system. Also, in terms of passive safety features, Frontier is equipped with Nissan Advanced Airbag System which consists of the driver, passenger airbag and roof-mounted curtain airbags.
Frontier Verdict
Nissan Frontier is a durable work truck that’s cheap and offers a great deal in under $20,000. But, when compared to its rivals, Frontier lacks good cabin feel, modern exteriors, and advanced safety features.
