Tesla Model S runs with a 7:20 Nürburgring lap time, coming back next month

Nürburgring race track is one of the longest, most tradition-steeped, challenging and busiest race tracks in the world. It exploits the mistakes and weaknesses of cars and drivers, and it is always considered as hard to crack.

As we previously reported, the Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the visit of Model S on Nürburgring track soon. Let’s see how Tesla Model S performs at the Ring.

The data from the Model S "Plaid's" track tests indicate the electric sedan is capable to hit a 7:20 lap time at the Nurburgring right now. And the firm hopes that improvements to the Model S Plaid will drop this time when the car comes on track again. The goal determined by the firm seems to be a lap time of 7:05, which it believes is possible.

Reports also reveal that four Tesla Model S sedans have been trying to overhaul the Nurburgring for the past few days. As per the rumors, one out of the four cars with no interior appointments has achieved the hand-timed doing a lap of 7:23. And other cars at the track were much slower.

Currently, the Porsche Taycan Turbo holds the record in the EV sedan segment with a lap time of 7:42. So it can be said that unofficially that Tesla Model S EV has overtaken that time by recording 7 minutes, 23 seconds, which would be 19 seconds faster than a Porsche Taycan EV prototype got around the 12.9-mile circuit.

Now the firm is continuously working on improvements and keeps making runs at the track. Stay tuned to see what happens next month when Tesla again takes to the Ring to put down sometimes.

The vehicle seen in the images looks pretty much like the Model S you can buy right now but actually, these are prototypes of the company's new “Plaid” powertrain.
