Mercedes ready to unveil PHEV GLE 350de 2020

Along with the GLC 350e plug-in hybrid, the Mercedes is also making the public debut of bigger GLE 350de at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Mercedes GLE 350de is a fascinating offering in the midsize premium SUV segment in Europe as it is powered by a turbo-diesel engine of 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit.

The plug-in hybrid internal combustion engine makes 194 PS of power and works together with an electric motor rated at 136 PS. The combined force of the electrified GLE delivers a total output of 320 PS and enough torque of 700 Nm. The muscular PHEV setup provides the GLE 350de with a 0 to 100 kmph run in only 6.8 seconds en route to a top speed of 210 kmph at the time of using the ICE or a speed of 160 kph at the time of the electric motor.

Due to a large 31.2 kWh battery pack, the PHEV can run 99 kilometres individually on electric energy based on the WLTP cycle. On the other hand, the batteries occupy the trunk space of the vehicle and drop the cargo capacity to 1,915 litres from 2,055 litres with the seats folded. Though, the loss is insignificant in comparison to the worth marking hybrid engine. The battery just takes 20 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% and takes 10 more minutes for a full charge by using a DC charging station. And, if using a wall box, it takes 90 minutes for a complete charge and if charging with a conventional power socket it needs about five hours. While on the go, the battery can be charged with the provided 7.4 kW onboard charger and regenerative braking.

The Mercedes aims at having more than ten plug-in hybrids on the board by this year-end and GLE 350de is a part of that. Moreover, the proposed number is expected to be more than double by the next year’s end. Till then, the GLE 350e and GLE 350de are ready for the official premiere.
