Kia is unveil halo high-performance EV in 2021
Kia seems to be hyperactive in the American market. Besides working on many models already (the Sorento is one example), the South Korean automaker is now working on building a high-performance halo electric vehicle.
We don’t know much about this new model in development. However, what we do expect is that it could take design cues from the Kia Imagine concept, which is a 4-door vehicle in the C-segment class. We are also expecting the EV to combine the traits of sedans and SUVs to some extent.
While talking about the EV model for 2021, Carlos Lahoz, who is the chief marketing at Kia has mentioned that it is a very significant effect of the way customers and prospectives perceive the South Korean brand. The automaker wishes to deliver a high-performance electric vehicle but wrap it up in a package that is completely different than what people are accustomed to seeing.
The underpinning of the 2021 performance electric vehicle is not known yet and Kia is waiting on a completely new platform that would power all the cars from the Hyundai Group. This might be the reason why the launch date is assigned as 2021 and not earlier.
Though being a performance-oriented electric vehicle, we are expecting the new 2021 halo EV to be available at the same price as the Tesla, BMW or Mercedes-Benz. It could have a driving range of close to 500 kilometers (310 miles) with an all-new 800 V battery. It can be charged from 20% to 80% in just around 20 minutes.
Having said that, the halo performance EV is not the only car Kia is working on. It aims to bring 11 new plug-in hybrid models by 2025.
