Volkswagen Taigun unveiled, official launch in 2021
Volkswagen has launched its compact SUV with the MQB A0 IN platform specifically developed for the Indian market. The Taigun was revealed at a media event just before the upcoming Auto Expo 2020 and is set to compete with Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in its segment.
Interestingly, the compact SUV is identical to Volkswagen’s Chinese-spec T-Cross. Volkswagen had previously showcased the Taigun as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. The 2014 concept car was a sub-4 meter SUV while the present Taigun is expected to be around 4.2 meters in length.
Based on the MQB A0 IN platform, Taigun is set to arrive on the Indian roads in 2021. The car is said to be powered by a 1.0-liter turbocharged TSI petrol engine, producing a maximum power output of about 113 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. The transmission options will include a 6-speed manual as standard and an optional 7-speed DSG auto box too.
The near production-ready model carries a broad front on the exterior and sports extensive use of chrome on the grille and around the fog lamps. The large front air dam and silver skid plates add to the muscular appeal of the car while the LED taillamps connected by an LED bar give the Taigun a wider stance.
Moving on the inside, the driver assistance system of Taigun gets a wide-screen for the Virtual Cockpit and an additional touchscreen unit for the infotainment system, compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Lastly, the Taigun will be one of the four new SUVs that Volkswagen plans to bring in the next few years with the Taigun making its way to the American market in the second half of 2021, after releasing in India.
