2020 Volkswagen Golf revealed, comes with 11 engine options
Golf, one of the most popular models in the Volkswagen lineup is set to come up in an eighth-gen version that features 11 engine options. Earlier it was expected to be showcased at Frankfurt Motor Show. But the firm had some other plans, anyway, now the new Golf is in front of us.
It poses a familiar look on the exterior front. The new dimensions now read 4,284 mm in length, 1,789 mm in width and have a wheelbase of 2,636 mm, which are quite same as the current model. If we see its aerodynamics, it is more slippery with a drag coefficient of just 0.275 and a frontal area of 23.8 square feet.
On the interior, the eighth-gen Golf specs sheet incorporates:
- 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.25-inch infotainment system display
- Adaptive cruise control which now works at up to 210kmph
- Plenty of advanced driver assistance systems
- European-standard vehicle-to-vehicle communication system called Car2X which communicates with other vehicles at ranges of up to 800 m
- Samsung smartphone connectivity which sets the phone as the car’s key. It will start the engine by just putting the phone on the central console and unlock the door by just waving the phone near the door.
The most significant update has been done on the mechanical bits of the model. As said earlier, the firm is offering 11 engines which contain five hybrid options, let’s see their output numbers:
- Among five hybrid powertrains, three are mild hybrid, powered by 48-volt mild-hybrid systems and tuned to produce 109 PS, 129 PS and 148 PS of power respectively
- The remaining two are plug-in hybrids equipped with 13-kilowatt-hour batteries which are capable to produce 201 PS and 241 PS of power, respectively
Besides hybrid, the other engine options are
- Two 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder gasoline-fueled engine producing 89 PS and 109 PS
- Two 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder delivering 114 PS and 148 PS
- Two 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel-fueled engine churning out 114 and 148 PS
About the pricing and launch date, nothing has been disclosed by the automaker yet. But it is known that the production of the model is about to begin in December.
