BMW M2

The 2019 BMW M2 is one of the most exciting two-door sports sedans ever to have come out of the stables of the Bavarian car manufacturer. The car is based on the very popular 2-Series and has a wide-body appearance. M2 also get a broad range of performance upgrades which along with its grunty turbocharged powerhouse of an engine and almost telepathic chassis setup make it an ultimate performance machine on road.

For the 2019 model, BMW has decided to offer a wide range of updates in the all-new M2 which also includes a major engine swap. Instead of the old inline 6, BMW has replaced the powerplant in the 2019 M2 with a more powerful unit derived from the M3 and M4 models. Other components derived from the bigger M models include a stiffer front suspension and the 2019 M2 also gets a revised stability control system, steering control and rear differential. BMW M2 rides on 19-inch wheels which get a more powerful set of brakes.  

The exterior of the car has also been revised and now features a wider kidney grille in the front along with a larger air intake which maximizes cooling. BMW also offers two new paint schemes for the 2019 M2 which includes sunset orange and Hockenheim silver.

Stepping inside the cabin, you would notice that the trim quality has been improved as compared to the previous model and there’s a red engine start button along with switches to customize the ‘M Drive’ modes. As an optional extra, buyers can also opt for a pair of ‘M Sport seats. Even though BMW has tried to improve the trim quality inside the cabin, the fit and finish of the carbon fiber and faux suede panels is not at par with the quality standards we have come to expect from German premium car manufacturers.

The 2019 BMW M2 features an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay as standard. The infotainments system also comes with voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity a, d a premium Harman/Kardon stereo system with a free 1-year subscription to SiriusXM All Access. There are also several USB ports and power outlets located throughout the sport sedan.

The prices for the 2019 M2 competition start from $58,900 and buyers can customize their car by adding on from a wide range of optional extras. The M2 coupe is powered by a BMW M twin power turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine which produces 405 BHP of power and 406 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels using a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission. The stick shift model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds flat and it takes the automatic transmission 4.2 seconds to complete the same sprint. According to BMW, the 2019 M2 is capable of offering a combined fuel economy of 20 mpg in the manual variant and 19 mpg for the automatic transmission models.

Both National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not tested the 2019 BMW M2 yet but the performance machine comes with safety features like lane departure warning, automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking, and forward-collision warning.
