Sony unveils its first all-electric car at CES 2020
Sony steps into the new decade with a surprise for its fanbase. The technology and entertainment company unveils its first-ever all-electric car at the Consumer Electrics Show 2020. The vehicle marks the debut of the electronic-based organisation into the production of automobiles.
The Japanese tech giant has introduced the vehicle prototype as a design of the company's vision for the future. The vehicle resembles its styling of a fastback sedan and features a long list of sensors and in-car entertainment technologies. Moreover, the car is equipped with autonomous driving technology under its new Vision-S initiative, and the vehicle resembles Sony's advanced automotive technologies.
The concept car was unveiled to the world by Sony President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, ahead of the annual CES show that was held in Las Vegas. The Vision-S is said to feature a total of 33 different sensors in the car, including multiple widescreen displays, and a connectivity option that stays active at all times. The prototype also resembles pieces of equipment coming from significant performers of the industry like BlackBerry and Bosch.
On the outside, the vehicle resembles its styling to that of a Porsche, especially around the headlights. On the Inside, the Vision-S is said to feature a dashboard with a spanning screen along with screens for rear-seat passengers in the headrests. As we have no idea on the details of the drivetrain of the car, it can be assumed to carry specs, similar to those of a Tesla.
Vision S will also permit the driver to have a certain degree of supplementary driving and help them with features like auxiliary braking. Also, the sensors that are there on the outside is said to increase the safety feature of the car by an enhanced object detection feature. When asked about the future aim of Sony, executive Kenichiro Yoshida commented, "We will accelerate our efforts to contribute to the future of mobility".
The company plans to put the vehicle on roads for a test drive on roads by the end of March 2021. However, the company has no plans for commercial sales or mass production of their car or even put their prototype into full-scale production.
