No major update for Model S, Elon Musk clarifies

Tesla’s most accoladed Model S was previously rumored to get a major update. However, the company’s CEO Elon Musk has dispelled such rumors and clarified that there are no impending upgrades for the Model S.

"There is no "refreshed" Model X or Model S coming, only a series of minor ongoing changes. Most significant change in past few years was to use high efficiency Model 3 rear drive unit as S/X front drive unit. That went into production 3 months ago,” tweeted Musk to a question. He also added that there are no plans of upgrading the interior of the two nameplates. Also, the two models will be discontinued anytime soon.

The American EV maker has always been in news for the last few months. It recently managed to improve deliveries after a major tussle with expense management and falling stock prices. However, the news for the upgradation of Model S and X hasn’t originated yesterday. The rumor was surfaced in 2012 and then in 2015 for Model S and X, respectively and then reported in 2018 with citation of some anonymous sources.

Although the negation of ‘refreshed’ Model S and X may sound unpleasing to the fans, minor updates are likely to be pushed to these models. The Model S could be furnished with a few minor updates in the coming time on a rolling basis. This is expected to introduce an extended driving range by 30 miles, taking the figure to 400 miles, new drive motors and probably a streamlined interior design.

Tesla’s Model S is undoubtedly an engineering masterpiece. A 2.4 seconds nil to 60 mph sprint, 30 cubic feet storage and 370 miles of driving range, the electric coaster has got all in its bucket. The most recent updates furnished to the car was in 2016, in which, the most highlighting change was the introduction of 17-inch touchscreen infotainment panel. It schleps a bunch of high-tech features and the news of coming minor updates is intriguing enough to wait for.
