McLaren likely to introduce a no-roof car named Speedster
The British premium sports car manufacturer McLaren is rumoured to be making an all-new no-roof coaster. It is expected to be called Speedster and will be slotted with track-focused Senna and Speedtail hyper-GT. The speculations are being made on a tip given by an unnamed insider. Except that, there are no reports and leaks to hint the design and makeover of the coaster.
According to the insider, the McLaren Speedster will have a ‘fluid’ design and has been conceived for road-driving pleasure. This suggests that the car is likely to have improved aerodynamics and the absence of a roof will help in weight reduction. Besides the open cabin, the coaster may feature butterfly-opening doors instead of the standard ones.
The McLaren will not be a track-focuses nameplate like the Senna. It may equip the brand’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 mill without any hybrid powertrain. The powerful engine along with with a lightweight will surely hook up the car's performance by a fair degree.
As far as production is concerned, one can expect it to be under 500 units, as per the hint by the insider. Expect the price to be around 1.5 million pounds, which convert into $1,874,355. To recall, the Monza SP1 and SP2 also cost the same. If confirmed, the production of Speedster will not begin before the manufacturing of 106 Speetails completes. With this, one can conclude that the production is likely to begin between late 2020 and early 2021. However, we can expect a sooner debut as the company has a habit of premiering limited-run nameplates before the initiation of production in order to fill the order list.
