Infiniti is going all-electric very soon

Infiniti hasn't been the automaker who is very keen to shift to electricity for power. Unlike Nissan, the process has rather been slow or even non-existant to put electric powertrains under the hoods of its cars. However, things are about to change drastically in the next two years or so as Infiniti plans to incorporate its vehicles with different kinds of electric powertrains. To begin with, next-generation Infiniti will very soon introduce what it calls the "gas-powered electric vehicles".

Infiniti Electric Cars

These will be nothing but fuel cell vehicles, albeit with the fuel cell replaced with an internal combustion engine. In these vehicles, the battery pack that powers the electric motors will be charged by a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.5-litre engine that will act as an electricity generator.

Infiniti Electric Lineup

We have already seen this tech before, and vehicles like Chevrolet Volt, Honda Insight, and BMW i3 REx have the same tech onboard from some time now. The difference, however, between the abovementioned cars and the upcoming Infiniti models is that the ICE in these models work for a while and then shuts down providing the powertrain with a limited all-electric range. On the other hand, the ICE on the Infiniti cars will be always on keep charging the battery pack restlessly. These gas-powered electric vehicles by Infiniti will feature an electric motor on each axle and produce 248 or 429 hp of maximum power. The battery packs will range from 3.5 kWh to 5.1 kWh, and a 0 to 97 kmph run will take no more than 4.5 seconds.

Moving on, Infiniti will also introduce battery-powered electric vehicles. As the name suggests these will be pure electric vehicles whose electric motors will receive power from a rechargeable battery pack that will be charged via wall chargers. Moreover, these vehicles will also feature the same platform as their gas-powered electric vehicle siblings. The 2021 Infiniti QX55, new QX60, and other models will be introduced soon by Infiniti as Nissan's sister prepares to roll out around five new cars in the next three years or so.
