Genesis GV80 to make an appearance at Super Bowl, ahead of summer launch
Genesis's first-ever luxury crossover SUV, GV80 is set to make its American debut at the Super Bowl game event, as per reports from TheKoreanCarBlog. Previously, the GV80 made an official debut in South Korea, earlier this month.
Apart from this, the vice president of the Genesis division, Yong-Woo Lee also confirmed a summer launch of GV 80 outside Korea. In his latest statement, he commented, "We have secured more than 350 Genesis dealerships in the US market last year. We plan to introduce the GV80 for next month's Super Bowl. A full-scale new car launch will take place around summer."
While the technical details for the GV80 which will be launched in the US market are not revealed yet, but we can expect the car to be offered in a different powertrain setup. The vehicle can be provided with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing a maximum power of 304 hp in the base model accompanied by a twin-turbo V6 engine producing a total of 365 hp in the higher trim.
The debut version of the GV80 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine, generating power of a maximum 278 hp and peak torque of 588 Nm. The powertrain specification of the car might only be fixed to the Korean market.
Interestingly, apart from releasing the GV80 at its debut event, Genesis also teased its upcoming future lineup of six-cars via a shadowy image. Amongst what seemed to be a sporty coupe and small hatchback in the six cars lineup, the sixth vehicle previewed via the mysterious photos resembled the styling of a small three-door hatchback, sharing a side profile similar to an EV. The automaker also showcased an EV concept car at the 2019 New York Auto Show.
Lastly, no official date for the launch of the car in the US market has been revealed.
