Factory-made BMW M2 Competition Race Car teased ahead of its reveal
BMW M2 has been observed in track action several times. Even if it is a very potent and capable hot hatch, it has not always been in good shape. This car is trendy among smaller teams searching for a turn-key car with factory support. BMW has declared that they will take this model officially to the track in the form of a competitive race car for "grassroots motorsport and club racing." Sadly, the older car will be replaced with this new race car, which is based on the M2 Competition.
The car will make its racing appearance on August 3rd during the fifth round of the VLN championship at the Nurburgring. It will be driven by Beitske Visser and Jörg Weidinger and will wear a one-off camouflage livery. The forthcoming six-hour race won't be the first event, where the new M2 race car will hit the track. BMW has previously tested it successfully at Miramas in France, and Portimão in Portugal. This race is yet added endurance test, but it also helps as a showcase to demonstrate what the car is capable of.
BMW stated that it would offer "Clubsport" and "Racing" versions of the car. However, there is no specific detail regarding the performance number or engine specifications. The on-going M2 Competition comes equipped with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six, which is capable of putting out 405 hp of maximum power, so we can assume that the racing version might use a similar powertrain.
The carmaker has announced that deliveries will commence from the second quarter of 2020. It will be a successor to the M240i Racing with an appeal to amateur racers.
