Bugatti W16 engine will keep roaring in the 2020s

When you buy Bugatti, it is for brute performance, nothing else. The secret behind the enthralling performance is the automaker's W16 engine that is capable of pumping out 1,577 hp of maximum power on the on-sale Buggati Chiron. The 8.0-litre W16 came out with the Veyron concept that was unveiled in the year 2000 and featured a quad-turbo layout. Also, the legendary sixteen-cylinder engine is found on the Chiron Super Sport 300+, world's fastest-ever street-legal car, and the La Voiture Noire, world's most expensive car.

Just in case if some of you were wondering whether or not the outrageous 8.0-litre W16 will continue to roar on the roads in the new decade, the answer is, yes. While Volkswagen, the parent company, is very much working day & night on introducing new electronic and hybrid models for better efficiency and environment friendliness, Bugatti cars are meant for performance and only brute performance. Customers buy a Bugatti for a thrilling experience and the folks at Bugatti are aware of the fact quite well.

"The W16 has, in my opinion, an opportunity for the future. It’s a USP which is not diminishing in value. Said Bugatti boss Stephan Winkelmann while speaking to Autocar. Moreover, the Volkswagen Group boss Herbert Diess "knows the value of a W16 engine", stated Winkelmann. Bugatti has under 100 units of the Chiron for the taking. So, if you've got $3 million lying around for a hypercar, better buzz the automaker before the stock run out.

As for the Bugatti Chiron's successor, we won't be witnessing it anytime before late 2021 when the automaker stops producing the current-gen Chiron. Moreover, the successor might also feature a different powertrain than the 8.0-litre W16. Anyway, the W16 is here and will go on to live in the new decade as well. "If it lasts another decade, ICE will be the last of a kind, and the last of a kind means it is collectable. The EB110 is skyrocketing. And Veyrons are going up. I don’t have to be a wizard to forecast that this will happen to the Chiron and therefore, I’m committing to the fact that this is the way to go for the hyper sportscar in the next decade", added Winkelmann.
