BMW unveils X7 pickup concept

BMW has unveiled its X7 pickup concept, a utility vehicle from the German automobile manufacturer. Vocational trainees of the company in association with the concept construction and model technology teams in Munich have developed the concept over a time period of more than 10 months. The regular X7, however, is manufactured in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The concept comes with a cargo tray that is lined with handcrafted teak panels along with trim strips that are made from SLS 3D pressure components. Sporting yachts have inspired the engineers to use honey-colored wood as well as blue metallic paint, as stated by the company. In addition to that, the length of the concept vehicle is about 100mm longer than the donor vehicle. The brand has opted for carbon-fibre reinforced plastic for making the unique rear doors, rear lid, and roof of the X7. The use of such material has resulted in 200 kilograms less weight than the production crossover.

BMW X7 pickup can carry a BMW F 850 GS motorcycle if you keep the tray door open. On the other hand, the company has claimed that the length of the concept’s loading area is 1400mm with the door up, and when it is down, the length increases to 2000mm. The automobile manufacturer from Germany has stated that the concept is a one-off and they have no plans for a series implementation.

The concept vehicle features a five-seater sitting arrangement. The loading area is handcrafted with fine-polished wood. BMW has used CFRP in some components used in the roof, cargo beg, and rear doors. The chrome-plated grab handles and finely attached pickup box to the X7’s centre section add a premium touch to the look. The brand has not revealed any picture of the interiors. The powertrain might feature a turbocharged, 3.0-liter straight-six engine, which is tuned to put out a maximum power of 340 hp to the four wheels.
