BMW axes production of its Series 3 Gran Turismo
BMW has recently moved out its niche model, the 3 Series Gran Turismo from its 2020 price list, as per reports by Autocar. But it will be available for sale at the authorized dealers till the stock ends.
BMW's chief Harald Krüger, during a speech at BMW's Q1 2019 financial report in May 2019, had previously mentioned about the end of production of the Series 3, after the current generation. The 3 Series GT witnessed a significant demand at the time of its launch due to its unique styling aspect of both wagon and sedan.
The 3 Series Gran Turismo is an updated, more practical version of the 3 Series. The car comes with increased back seat space but at a price tag that cannot be afforded by all. On the outside, the car gets a new front and rear bumper adopted by the design of BMW M3. The vehicle also sports a new set of side skirts along with a black front grille and a set of M badges. The Series 3 Gran Turismo rides on 18-inch M Sport wheels, inspired by the M3.
Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by a 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 250 bhp and generates peak torque of up to 350 Nm. The four-cylinder engine comes mated to a rear-wheel-drive setup and also features an active rear spoiler. The Gran Turismo takes 6.1 seconds to reach 100 km per hour from an idle start at a speed of 250 km per hour.
One of the most popular fastback sedans has been kicked out of production, majorly because of a decline in sales in the European markets. Officially, the reason behind the discontinuation from BMW includes the reduction of portfolio complexity and the elimination of some model derivatives.
