BMW 2 Series goes into production
Recently, the BMW 3 Series hatchback was discontinued for the American market and while it did create an impact in the market there was little BMW could have done to keep the prices in check. So, BMW decided to come up with an all-new segment altogether, the 2 Series Gran Coupe. A much affordable alternative to the 3 Series hatchback.
As this 2 Series goes into production, BMW has its eyes set on the middle-class department. Back to the 3 Series hatchback, the 2.0L inline 4 engine is making a comeback with 2 Series and this might not be good news for the performance enthusiasts.
BMW 2 Series will be produced at the Leipzig plant, exactly where the legendary M series are produced.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be produced at the Leipzig plant which has a capacity of 1,000 units per day. This will be the ninth vehicle to be assembled at that plant and will take a much bigger face when it is ready for production at full force.
At a time where 5 series Gran Coupe wasn’t much of a hit but BMW decided to anyway proceed with the 2 Series Gran Coupe. This shows how a brand should trust his own product and we are pretty sure that this much affordable Coupe will leave a mark in the industry.
The official market dispatch date for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is in the spring of 2020, and it will offer various powertrains running from diesel to two fuel variations. More motors will pursue later on in the year, with buyers having the decision between various specs and hardware lines.
