2022 BMW i4 is now a palpable entity; official specs released
Folks at BMW Four-Cylinder are now ready to churn out its latest roscoe. The 2022 BMW i4 will be equipped with an electric motor churning out 523 steeds in all its glory. Similar to its V8 counterparts but with instantaneous torque under your shoes.
What we know is that this battery pack is totally redesigned and packs a capacity of 80 kWh with an approximate range of 600 kilometers. For us, this comes around to 373 miles, a much better proportion compared to first-gen Tesla which mostly ended up in flames under its hood.
Though we are not sure about the test cycle this i4 went under but according to the press release on the European website, it seems it was tested under the WLTP format. Much tightly wound EPA tests will result in reduced miles for the completely redesigned battery pack.
What fills our bucket of unleaded petrol heads is that this looks like a direct descendant to the 4 Series Gran Coupe, a much-electrified descendant. Brought to life from 2017 i Vision Dynamics Concept, i4 is able to reach the 124mph barrier(200km/h), this might not be the opulency you desire but the muscle you crave for.
What was supposed to be the beating heart for the iX3 crossover next year is now inside the i4, BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive hardware. The electric motor, transmission and power electronics are all part of a single housing, weighing around 550-kilogram (1,212 pounds). This battery pack will take 35 minutes to charge 80% of its capacity which roughly translates to 62 miles every six minutes.
BMW plans to EV-fy half of its fleet by the next decade which will include 25 models and bag itself a place in the future.
