2021 Cupra Formentor teased ahead of 2020 Geneva debut
The upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2020 is set to be very exciting right from the start. The Cupra will be one of the busiest in the lot as it would be bringing not one, but more than that. Yes, you heard it right, the automaker will not only display the Leon but will also showcase the production-ready version of the Formentor.
However, what is even more interesting here is the fact that Cupra has teased the production version of the Formentor ahead of its official debut at the auto show. Yet, the teaser wasn’t extensive as the previously previewed concept already looked good enough to hit production. The teased model now looks far more sedated than the concept, albeit slightly.
The Cupra Formentor electrified crossover has attractive LED taillights, with a strip of light passing across the tailgate. It also looks sporty with attractive defining lines on the sides and the front hood. There is a thin plastic cladding on the lower skirt of the crossover, including the wheel arches. The DRLs upfront have an attractive design, and so is the bumper.
The Cupra Formentor will be using hybrid technology. It will be powered by a 1.4-liter turbo gas engine and an electric motor. The combination could make a maximum power of 242 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The power will be sent down to the front wheels via a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Quite interestingly, the powertrain is similar that will be made available for the VW Golf GTE and Skoda Octavia RS iV.
Having said that, it is not known yet whether Cupra will offer a 2.0-liter TSI powertrain without the hybrid technology or not, something that the Leon is getting. It would make a lot of sense for the automaker to sell the Formentor in the IC powertrain as it will make the range more affordable.
More details on the Cupra Formentor will be revealed on its official premiere at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show.
