2020 Mazda MX-30 debuts as brand’s first production EV

Mazda displayed its first electric vehicle the MX-30 at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show on Wednesday. As observed, the front fascia of the vehicle is identical to the Mazda's other crossover SUVs, though some newly made appointments feature a sporty look. The two-door crossover has got an ultimate feature from the previous year’s Mazda RX-8 sports car i.e. small suicide rear doors that provide access to the rear seats.

All above the looks, the electric configuration is big to talk here. Though the firm has not revealed much about the engine specifications but, as per the sources, it is known that the model is powered by a 35.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, producing 143 PS of power and 265 Nm of torque using a single electric motor. The estimated range is quoted at around 209 kilometres. The usual Level 1 and Level 2 charging options are offered, as well as a combination-spec DC fast-charger.

If we talk about the driving experience, Mazda has tried to offer its best to the customers. As per the company’s official, "Mazda's e-Skyactiv provides aural feedback to the driver that enables him or her to subconsciously recognize the torque status of the power unit and thus control vehicle speed with greater precision.”

Inside the cabin, MX30 specs sheet incorporates:

• 7-inch touchscreen below the dash
• Climate controls 
• Floating console with storage space, having electronic gear shifter and control knob for the infotainment screen
• Door trims made up of fibres (sourced from recycled materials)
• Mazda's I-Activsense gear for safety

The MX-30 is pretty much production-ready and will be available for sale in Japan from the second half of 2020, but arrival in Europe and U.S. is still not confirmed. Stay tuned to Zigwheels USA for further insights.
